Communication for Development (C4D)English/Arabic

Communication for Development (C4D) can be defined as a systematic, planned and evidence-based process to promote positive and measurable individual behavior and social changes that are integral to development programs, policy advocacy, humanitarian work and the creation of a culture that respects and helps realize human rights.  It uses research and consultative processes to promote human rights, mobilize leadership and societies, influence attitudes and support the behaviors of those who have an impact on the well-being of children, women, their families and communities.
C4D is considered a relatively new area of expertise that is essential in inciting positive changes in beliefs, attitudes, and practices, which will positively improve the lives of millions throughout the world. The dramatic reduction of deaths caused by child dehydration and the eradication of Polio in Egypt and other countries are but few examples of the tremendous potential that C4D has to achieve positive change.
Thus far, no formal training for C4D professionals was offered by any educational institution in Egypt or the Middle East, although the market capacity to absorb such professional calibers is rapidly expanding. This joint effort by ACU in collaboration with UNICEF addresses the abovementioned gap by availing a capacity building C4D program.
C4D CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS (BY 2011)
1. A cadre of at least 25 NGOs personnel, 25 government officials and 25 graduates of social science and/or health as well as 25 professional communication specialists is equipped with capacities to plan and implement communication for development interventions.
2. A professional training program for C4D is institutionalized in Egypt to support a continuous capacity building program of Egyptian and regional professionals.
3. A regular "for credit" course is considered institutionally as part of the regular undergraduate program to bring about a continuous group of well trained graduates who are familiar with communication for development techniques.
4. Graduate and post graduate students are encouraged to undertake advanced studies in C4D, in terms of coursework as well as theses and dissertations.
5. The abovementioned results may be expanded to other countries in the Middle East and North Africa region.
