Exams, Absence and Failing:
1. If a student is absent on the day of the final exam, he/she is given a zero. If the student presents a legitimate excuse that is accepted by the administration within 2 days from the date of the exam, the course may be declared "incomplete". He/she then has the chance to take the exam at a later date, set by the dean of the faculty. This is allowed only if the student has achieved at least 60% of the coursework grades (including quizzes, papers, projects, and the mid-term exam), and if the student has not been deprived of entering the exam because his/her absence exceeded 25 % without presenting a legitimate excuse.
2. If a student fails a course, he/she will have a chance to re-take the course and then take another exam. If the student then achieves a passing grade in the course, the new grade will replace the old one, and the cumulative GPA will be calculated accordingly.
3. A student is allowed to skip (not register and/or attend any classes) for two consecutive semesters, or a maximum of three non-consecutive semesters.
If these limits are breached, the student will be expelled from the university, unless he/she gives a legitimate excuse to the administration of the faculty.
Registration, Dropping, Adding, and Withdrawal:
1. At the beginning of each semester, every student registers for the courses they wish to study, by filling out the provided advising forms.
2. The minimum number of credit hours taken per semester is 9, and the maximum number is 18.
3. There is a specified Drop and Add period, during which students are allowed to drop and/or add a course or more. Faculty members (advisors) may help students make their choices.
4. Students are allowed to withdraw from a course or more after the semester starts, within a pre-determined period.
In the case of withdrawal, the student does not fail the course, and therefore it is not included in the calculation of his/her GPA.
However, if the student withdraws from the course after that period, he/she will fail the course.
On the other hand, if the student presents a legitimate excuse up to at least one month from the final exam, he/she will be considered "withdrawn".
Faculty Policies That You Should Know ...
Plagiarism:
Plagiarism and/or cheating are serious offenses and will be dealt with accordingly. Cheating on a quiz or test will result in a zero for that particular quiz or test and may result in a failing grade for the class, as well as possible further sanctions, including dismissal from the university..
Drug Abuse:
The use of illegal drugs will result in dismissal from the university. All students and parents are required to sign the university consent form regarding the university disciplinary measures for drug abuse.
Absence:
Attendance is taken daily at the beginning of each class. Absences in excess of four times will result in one letter grade deduction for each additional absence. Seven absences result in denying the student’s right to sit for the final exam. Only valid and documented excuses will be accepted for absence.
The Grading System:
Grade Points Percent
