The ACU Advantage

Communication studies at ACU stress the balance between theoretical and practical skills. The philosophy of this four-year program is based on the belief that mass media specialists need excellent skills as well as superior academic background to join the work force immediately upon graduation and play a constructive role in public life. The student selects a major of his/her choice in the faculty: journalism, advertising and PR, or TV & Radio. In addition to the communication core courses and the requirements of their major department of specialization, students may elect to take up to six courses (18 credit hours) from another department in the faculty or from another faculty at ACU. Any student can also choose to take arts and graphic communication as a minor.

The Faculty of Mass Communication curriculum is developed based on five basic principles:

  • Experiential learning
  • Strong global emphasis
  • Interdisciplinary education
  • Media internships
  • Strong linkages to the Egyptian context

In addition, the curriculum is firmly grounded in liberal arts, where all students take a strong core of courses in the humanities and sciences to help them develop important skills and competencies necessary to work successfully in the complex and highly competitive media world.
