Comprehensive Approach to Activity Based Costing

Benefits and Added Value

In today's business environment, a number of current cost management issues are causing a revolution in cost management. Globalization is the main issue that initiated this revolution. As a result of globalization, pricing has become the main issue. Pricing has become very competitive. Companies realize that if they do not know how much their products cost and why they cost that much, they cannot compete. Therefore, they must find ways to answer the following questions:

  • What do products cost to produce?
  • Why do they cost that much?
  • What can we do about it?
The objective of this course is to provide an introduction to the new cost management principles and a high-level framework for implementation of these principals. A Comprehensive Approach to Activity Based Costing (ABC) would be presented. 

Structure

This program will be conducted over five sessions, five hours per session, i.e. 25 hours. It will cover the following topics and issues:

  • Cost allocation methods
  • Introduction to activity-based costing (ABC)
  • The role of activity based costing in integrated frameworks for performance measurement (Balanced Scorecard)
  • Accuracy of cost estimation and analysis with ABC
  • Building effective ABC
  • Cases on developing and managing ABC systems
Target Participants

This program is targeting the current senior executives in production and finance departments in different industries, in order to engage them in a brainstorming experience about A Comprehensive Approach to Activity Based Costing.
