Journalism and mass communication shape public opinion, enlighten citizens, lead the society and prevent dictators from rising to power. Television and radio reach all levels of the socioeconomic strata, and as such overcome the literacy barrier. Furthermore, advertising and public relations are now more important than ever, as they have proven to be as effective in social and political campaigns as they are in influencing consumer behaviors towards commercial products.

The "new" Egyptian journalists and mass communication professionals have just started to work in a different environment, which requires new and much better skills in order to excel in a more competitive world.

Essential skills such as writing, reporting, photography, videography, graphic design, internet and research, coupled with honesty, dedication, fairness, professionalism and ethical practice are among the ingredients of new Egyptian journalists and communication professionals in the 21^st century.
