Pharmacy Profession

Pharmacy is the profession which is concerned with the art and sciences of preparing suitable materials from natural and synthetic sources for distribution and use as treatment and prevention of diseases.

It comprises the knowledge of identification, selection, effects, preservation, analysis and standarlization of medicines. It also includes the safe distribution and use of drugs prescribed by a physician, dentist, or veterinarian or prepared and sold directly and legally to the consumer.

The term pharmacy is derived from the Greek word "Pharmacon" which means drug or medicine. So the pharmacist is the person concerned with drugs. He is the only drug expert, where drug expertise require deep knowledge in all aspects of pharmacy as defined above.
